Most blog posts are 30% longer than they need to be.
Not because the ideas are bad—but because we repeat ourselves.
We warm up before getting to the point.
We say the same thing three different ways hoping one lands.
The problem? Google notices. AI search engines notice.
And your readers definitely notice (they just leave before telling you).
I built this prompt to fix that.
One pass through ChatGPT or Claude and you get:
- Redundant sections identified and combined
- SEO optimization (keywords, structure, meta)
- AEO optimization (AI Overviews, featured snippets)
- GEO optimization (so AI tools cite YOU)
- Voice and personality preserved exactly
I’ve seen too many AI-edited posts come out sounding like a corporate HR manual.
This prompt specifically protects your voice while tightening everything else.
Why You Need SEO, AEO, AND GEO
Quick distinction because these terms get thrown around interchangeably:
SEO (Search Engine Optimization): Getting found on Google’s traditional blue links. Keywords, backlinks, technical structure—the classic stuff.
AEO (Answer Engine Optimization): Optimizing for featured snippets, “People Also Ask” boxes, and direct answers. Google wants to answer questions without clicks. You need to be the source it pulls from.
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization): The new frontier. This is about getting cited by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Google’s AI Overviews. Different game—these systems want clear definitions, authoritative statements, and well-structured information they can confidently reference.
If you’re only optimizing for one, you’re leaving traffic (and authority) on the table.
The Prompt Framework
I use a 4-part structure for all my prompts: Role, Context, Command, Output Format. This prompt follows that same pattern but goes deep on the Command section because editing is complex.

🔧 THE PROMPT (Copy This)
ROLE:
You are an expert content editor specializing in SEO, AEO (Answer Engine Optimization), and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization). You understand E-E-A-T principles, semantic SEO, passage ranking, Google's helpful content guidelines, and AI citation optimization. You have a sharp editorial eye for eliminating bloat while preserving authentic voice.
CONTEXT:
I'm providing a WordPress blog article that needs editing. The content may have redundant sections, repetitive points, or areas that could be consolidated without losing value. The original voice and personality of the writing must be preserved exactly—this is non-negotiable.
Target Keyword: [PRIMARY KEYWORD]
Secondary Keywords: [KEYWORD 2, KEYWORD 3, KEYWORD 4]
Search Intent: [Informational / Transactional / Commercial / Navigational]
Target Audience: [DESCRIBE YOUR READER]
Competitor URLs (optional): [URL 1, URL 2 — for gap analysis]
COMMAND:
Edit this blog article with the following priorities:
---
1. REDUNDANCY REMOVAL & TIGHTENING
- Identify and consolidate repetitive ideas, phrases, or sections
- Combine similar points into stronger, singular statements
- Cut fluff, filler, and throat-clearing phrases without cutting personality
- Remove "saying you're going to say something" intros (e.g., "In this article, we'll explore...")
- Eliminate weak transitions that don't add value
- Flag any sections that could be cut entirely with [CONSIDER CUTTING: reason]
---
2. SEO OPTIMIZATION
- Make sure primary keyword appears naturally in: first 100 words, at least 2 H2s, conclusion, and URL slug
- Weave secondary keywords naturally throughout (no stuffing)
- Optimize meta title (50-60 chars) and meta description (150-160 chars)
- Ensure proper heading hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3) with keyword variations
- Add internal linking opportunities: [INTERNAL LINK: topic suggestion]
- Add external authority link opportunities: [EXTERNAL LINK: suggest source type]
- Improve readability: shorter paragraphs (2-4 sentences max), varied sentence length
- Add a compelling hook in the first 2-3 sentences
- Include "bucket brigades" where engagement may drop (e.g., "Here's the thing:", "But wait—")
---
3. AEO OPTIMIZATION (Featured Snippets & Direct Answers)
- Structure content to directly answer likely user questions
- Add or refine FAQ section with 4-6 "People Also Ask" style questions
- Use clear, concise definitions for key terms (40-60 word featured snippet format)
- Front-load answers before elaboration (inverted pyramid style)
- Create "passage ranking" worthy sections—self-contained paragraphs that could rank independently
- Include a TL;DR or key takeaways section
---
4. GEO OPTIMIZATION (AI Citations & Generative Search)
- Write clear entity definitions (X is a Y that does Z) for NLP comprehension
- Include quotable, authoritative statements AI systems can cite
- Add structured data opportunities: [SCHEMA: FAQ, HowTo, Article]
- Ensure claims are specific and verifiable (AI avoids vague sources)
- Use clear attribution for stats and facts
- Create "citation-worthy" paragraphs—definitive, well-sourced, comprehensive
---
5. E-E-A-T SIGNALS (Experience, Expertise, Authority, Trust)
- Flag opportunities to add first-hand experience ("In my experience...", "When I tested this...")
- Suggest where to add credentials, data, or proof points
- Recommend where expert quotes or citations would strengthen authority
- Ensure claims are backed or softened appropriately
- Add freshness signals: suggest where dates/updates should be referenced
---
6. SEMANTIC SEO & TOPIC DEPTH
- Identify missing subtopics competitors likely cover: [CONTENT GAP: topic]
- Suggest related entities/concepts to mention for topical completeness
- Ensure comprehensive coverage without bloat—depth over breadth
- Flag thin sections that need expansion: [EXPAND: reason]
---
7. ENGAGEMENT, CRO & MOBILE OPTIMIZATION
- Ensure clear CTA placement (not just at the end)
- Add open loops early to encourage full reading
- Suggest where to add visuals: [IMAGE: description] or [EMBED: video/infographic]
- Optimize for mobile scannability: strategic bold on key phrases (sparingly)
- Suggest pull quotes for social sharing
- Ensure paragraphs are 2-4 sentences max for mobile readers
---
8. ACCESSIBILITY & INCLUSIVE CONTENT
- Flag images needing alt text: [ALT TEXT NEEDED: description]
- Check reading level (aim for 8th grade unless technical audience)
- Suggest inclusive language improvements where relevant
- Ensure link text is descriptive (not "click here")
---
9. VOICE PRESERVATION (NON-NEGOTIABLE)
- Match the original tone exactly (casual, professional, witty, etc.)
- Keep signature phrases, humor, metaphors, and stylistic quirks
- Maintain the same reading level and vocabulary choices
- If unsure whether something is "voice" or "fluff," keep it
---

How to Use This Prompt
- Fill in the brackets at the top (keyword, audience, intent). Don’t skip this—it focuses the AI.
- Paste your draft article at the bottom where indicated.
- Review the Change Log first. This tells you exactly what got cut and why. If something important got removed, you’ll catch it here.
- Check the Voice Preservation Notes. If the AI missed your tone, tell it what to fix and run it again.
- Implement the [BRACKETED] suggestions manually. The AI flags opportunities but leaves final decisions to you.
The Parts Most People Miss
A few things in this prompt that aren’t obvious but make a big difference:
“Passage Ranking” sections: Google can now rank individual paragraphs, not just whole pages. The prompt specifically creates self-contained paragraphs that can rank independently.
Citation-worthy content for GEO: AI tools like Perplexity only cite sources they trust. The prompt pushes for definitive, well-attributed statements that AI systems will actually reference.
Bucket brigades: These are short transitional phrases (“Here’s the deal:”, “But here’s the catch:”) that re-engage readers when attention drifts. The prompt adds them at natural drop-off points.
Mobile-first formatting: 80%+ of readers are on phones. The prompt enforces short paragraphs and scannable structure because walls of text don’t work on a 6-inch screen.
Grab the Prompt
That’s it. One prompt, one pass, and your blog posts are tighter, more optimized, and still sound like you.
Copy it. Tweak it for your niche. Use it every time you publish.
And let me know how it goes. Especially if you have a backlog of old evergreen articles that need updated.
