It took me over a year of blogging before I realized something was wrong. Back then I was chasing the belief that content was king and I made it my mission to rapidly churn out articles in hopes of changing the world.
Over time this resulted in tons of free traffic, blog comments and social shares. But when I added up the time it took me to write, coupled with the money I spent on hosting and other blogging software, it was clear…
I was spending more than I made. And this was not sustainable.
If you’re suffering with the same conundrum, let me solve your problem by sharing the same stupid cliche someone told me. “Your money is in your list.” Seriously. Read any how-to blog on blogging and you’ll realize this is just one of those things people say.
But it’s super true.
When it comes to blogging, your goal is to optimize your WordPress site to collect email addresses. Your email subscribers become your “list.” Over time you build a relationship with your subscribers. And eventually you work up enough courage to send a promotion via email… And if you do it right, you sell a bunch of stuff.
This simple model is how the professionals make money blogging.
One way to increase email opt-ins is by leveraging the power of opt-in software. And over the years I have tried several popular opt-in software solutions. The problem is, most of the software is expensive and requires a level of nerdiness beyond writing.
The Rapidology Email Capture Plugin Can Help You Get Subscribers
Luckily the smart team at Leadpages has launched Rapidology, a free email capture plugin for WordPress designed to help you increase your email subscribers. This plugin has some amazing features, including the ability create email capture pop-ups, in-article opt-in forms, sidebar forms and more.
In full transparency, Rapidology is free and you get full functionality. But the plugin is owned by my affiliate partner LeadPages. And I am pretty sure Leadpages hopes you will be so impressed with the software that you’ll eventually decide to sign up for their paid services. If you end up doing that, I will receive a small referral commission.
Now that the disclaimer is out of the way, let’s get started…
You can sign up for Rapdidology here. You will then receive an email containing a secret access code. After you receive the code, you can download and then install the Rapidology plug-in. Once installed, you select your an opt-in form, configure it and link to your preferred email service (like MailChimp or Aweber) and you’re on your way!
What is totally cool about this plugin (aside from the fact it’s free) are all customization options available. This allows you to seamlessly integrate the plugin with your your WordPress site so you can split test and increase your email capture.
